We Need to Talk about that After Trailer
Dec. 7th, 2018 06:23 pmSo I just saw the new Teaser Trailer for Anna Todd's magnum opus After, and I uh, I have some thoughts.
1. The Song. "Dangerous Woman," really? The most dangerous thing about Tessa is how judgmental she is. Oooh, be careful, she has a snobby comment about your wardrobe choices!
2. Credit where credit is due, Casey Aonso pointed this out, but the guy who plays Hardin is so stilted. This is the best they could get for the trailer aka the bit that's supposed to make you want to watch the movie? Really?
The only options I can think of here are either:
a) the editors are shit at their job and they made him seem like a bad actor through their shitty editing
or b) he is that bad of an an actor, and that's the best they could get out of him
Both of these are horrifying.
3. I don't know if this is the editing or the actress or both but Tessa is trying to make the whole thing so dramatic with her dialogue.
"My life was so simple before him, and now there's only After"
Babe, you're an attractive, straight, white, cis woman who had sex for the first time (with an attractive, straight, white, cis guy). This really isn't that big of a deal. He's not a vampire. You aren't even into BDSM. It's just boring vanilla hetero sex. Most people have boring vanilla hetero sex. Calm down, please.
4. There's this guy in the trailer that looks like he's 38. What is he doing at a college party and who in their right mind thought this was an approbate casting choice?
5. This movie is kinda trying to be 50 Shades of Grey, but really it's just giving me the vibe of every low budget teen movie. I'm very underwhelmed.
6. I brought this up long time ago, when I talked about the published version of the original fanfic, but... Hardin? Really? I get she wanted to have an H name and make it as close to Harry as possible, but I mean, c'mon, dude. There are much better H names! Harold, Harvey, Harper, Hector, Henry. Hardin is the least nice sounding and least sexy name I can think of.

Also, imagine attempting to have dirty talk with someone named Hardin.
"Harder, Hardin!"
"Oh, Hardin! Hardin, Hardin, Hard-oooh."
"Wait do you want me to go harder or am I going too hard?"
